Photos from a day in Bath, UK

London is such a grand city, with so much to do, that it’s easy to forget that it only takes a train ride to get to a different and not less astonishing place. And Bath is definitely one of those. Many years ago I was in Bath as part of a guided tour to Stonehenge. And I always wanted to go back. Got the chance to do so a few weeks ago, whilst my parents were visiting. I wanted to show them to other places in the UK that were not London. And Bath was definitely on my list.

Bath is the kind of place that makes me want to sit down somewhere and write. Write with ink and a feather pen. Getting my fingers and nails tinted with black, writing on already yellowed paper.

Known for its Roman baths and Georgian architecture, Bath is a city like no other. And for that reason, it deserves the status of UNESCO Worl Heritage Site. It feels like walking inside a storybook. In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful places in England, every street as elegant as the other, the symmetrical crescents, all built from the local limestone in the 18th century.

And yet, I have never written in Bath. I never had a chance to sit in a cafe simply contemplating what was around me. Or visiting the Jane Austen Centre, which is actually shocking if you know how much of a sucker I am for Austen’s novels and her sarcastic portraits of society. That was what first attracted me to Bath in the first place – knowing that she likely drew inspiration in this exact town, where I myself feel so inspired to write.

Perhaps I am being a bit of a romantic, but who wouldn’t be in such a place? and this time I got to do something new – seeing Bath from above. If you are ever around in Bath, and have some strength in your legs for a steep climb, believe me when I say it is worth it for the view – go to Alexandra Park.

What I also find fascinating about Bath, is that no matter how green the trees are, or how sunny it gets, I feel like it’s always Autumn, my favourite season of the year.

Love, Nic
